What kind of man shoots at a 26 year old girl? What does he think? Does he have friends? Does he return to his home in the evening and play with his children? Does he have dreams and wishes for his future? Does he have a favourite song or movie?

Everyone has a few minutes before falling asleep at night, when he can think about his life. What does this man think? Does he ever really think?

Does he regret that he had killed, that he had murdered her? Does he tell his mother, his sister, that he was the one who shot her?

After all he is a human being, isn't he?

I just try to understand.

Neda, you werent supposed to die like that. You werent supposed to become the symbol of a movement. You were supposed to go to school, to university. You were supposed to go out with your girlfriends, to date handsome guys and to fall in love. You were supposed to cry, to laugh, to hate and to love. You were supposed to live, Neda. Iran is changing in these days. And the whole world is watching. How the people protest against the regime, how students get shot and die in the arms of their friends, how paramilitary forces are spreading terror in students dorms, on the street, in private homes. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and iReport make it possible.

But what about the last 30 years? Who was watching then? When the government killed ten

thousands of students in the late eighties? When Ayatollah Khomeini sent thousands of minors, 15 year old boys, to die in the war against Iraq? The media makes it look like Iran was a working democracy until last friday, but it never was.

Our government doesn't work for us, they work for themselves and their craving for power. The so called democracy is just ridiculous, since the almighty supreme leader does not get elected by the people.

I always felt as if the world had forgotten us. Everybody has an opinion when it comes to Palestine, when it comes to whether computer games should be banned or not, when it comes to Paris Hilton's new hairstyle.

But what about us? People from other countries seem to think that our biggest problem is being forced to wear a headscarf in public or not being allowed to go to clubs and parties and that we are muslims and it should be okay for us.

And I cant remember ever seeing a news report about the executions of minors in the Islamic Republic. About writers, students and poets tortured to death. About mentally retarded, sexually abused girls executed by stoning. In 2008 350 people were executed by the regime. And most of them not for murdering or hurting other people, but for "crimes against the moral".

I dont want to tell you stories about how people

get tortured, for what "crimes" they have to let their lives. I dont want this shocking effect which only generates compassion. And I don't want to create any opinions about who is good and who is not (Especially when it comes to the revolution 30 years ago and the role of the Shah then).

But I do want you to see, to realize, that we have the same drive to live in freedom as you do.

That we will not be content with a change within the system.

That this is not only about election fraud, not only about our right to vote and get heard, but about our right to live in a peaceful society, where our personal, religious and economical freedom and our cultural identity is respected and defended by the government.

Now that you have seen that we are a peaceful nation, that we do want to get rid of this regime please get informed about what happened in our country the last 30 years. Don't forget those who had to leave their lives, who were murdered by the regime, before the society was ready rise and to fight for their freedom!

PS: I will search some good links about recent Iranian history and the actual situation of the human rights and post them here as soon as possible.

Just heartbreaking

This was written by an iranian blogger. I just want to share it with you

I will participate in the demonstrations tomorrow. Maybe they will turn violent. Maybe I will be one of the people who is going to get killed. I’m listening to all my favorite music. I even want to dance to a few songs. I always wanted to have very narrow eyebrows. Yes, maybe I will go to the salon before I go tomorrow! There are a few great movie scenes that I also have to see. I should drop by the library, too. It’s worth to read the poems of Forough and Shamloo again. All family pictures have to be reviewed, too. I have to call my friends as well to say goodbye. All I have are two bookshelves which I told my family who should receive them. I’m two units away from getting my bachelors degree but who cares about that. My mind is very chaotic. I wrote these random sentences for the next generation so they know we were not just emotional and under peer pressure. So they know that we did everything we could to create a better future for them. So they know that our ancestors surrendered to Arabs and Mongols but did not surrender to despotism. This note is dedicated to tomorrow’s children…”

Students were taken to the underground of the interior ministry. Plainclothes attacked the university, insulting them and beating them up.
Once they were taken to the underground, guards continued to torture them. Some of them went to the Evin prison
A group of around 46 with a minibus were taken to the basement of the interior ministry blindfolded.
When in the bus, they were put in seats where above above them were metal cans. Basij would come by and hit the cans to torture them. This was awful mental torture.
They noticed at the point the bus turned that they were going underground. From Basij comments, they knew they were going to the basement of the interior ministry.
The place they were held appeared 100 m size (not sure if square or distance)
The floor was covered with black ash and steam was coming out of it. Students were forced to lie on the ground and roll across it. If they hit someone elses feet, they'd get hit with baton.
The guards kept asking, "are you going to make revolution?" and issued family insults
Around 50 students, 20 plainclothes/guards
Later, when sitting on the ground, they were continuously told to look down and then up. After a few minutes of staring at the ground, they would receive a kick to the face. "why aren't you looking at the ground?" they'd then say.
While doing this, there was the sound of breaking bricks. They were told it was from workers who were behind the building working, but it was obvious it was purposeful. This was awful mental torture.
The bathrooms were inhumane. They did not have doors or covers, and students only had 30 seconds to go to the bathroom. One student whose pants was down was kicked out to be revealed to others.
One student was injured in the eye earlier. He said his eyes were hurting badly, said losing eyesight. He then received a kick to his face.
Another student with a broken leg, and in the corner, they didn't treat well.
Almost no water offered. Students were lined up in 5s one behind another, and a little water was poured over them quickly.
One of the head officers asked jokingly if their thirsts were quenched. The officers responded saying yes. The head officer then asked "then why is one in corner dying?" Soldiers took a hose and shot boiling water at all of them.
Students were given old macaroni in their hands. They were fearful to eat the food because they were told that if it fell to the floor full of ash, they'd have to eat it or suffer kicking otherwise.
The morning after, they received a old, dry piece of bread with piece of cheese. They had to split the bread with the person next to him. Since the bread was so dry, many crumbs would fall, and they had to pick the pieces up from the ashes.

Another ugly and dirty torture was sexual torture. They are so embarrassed that they don't want to say what happened. Once transferred to police station, the sexual torture continued.

This one day stay was the worst of their lives. Sometimes, they felt like they'd be there forever, and that no one would help. after an hour in the place, while rolling in the ground, one student began to cry, which led to the rest breaking down as well.

One of the agents who went to the basement said to the students that their experience would be 1000x worse than guantanamo.

The students were taken later to security police. They were taken to a press conference with Chancellor Dr Rahbar and a member of Majlis. The students were given shirts to cover up their blood, and the government media showed up to report. The Chancellor said the students of Tehran University were fine, but that they would still look into the allegations that the Basij had treated students poorly. If he was caring for the students, he would have prevented the attacks to begin with.

Iran for foreigners

As I was talking to many non iranian friends of mine the other day, it became clear that most of them dont really know what is going in in the country, although they are really interested in the topic.

So I thought it would be a good idea to sum up the most important facts about the country's politics.

1. Political system of Iran

Although the presidant gets elected by the people, Iran is not a democratic country. Actually he has nothing to say since no political decisions is lawful without the agreement of the supreme leader of the country Ayatollah Chamenei. I dont want to go to much into detail about how the parlament and stuff works, but I would recommend to you to read the wikipedia article about him and his political role.

Another very important thing is, that all presidental candidates are chosen by him.

Have you seen the posters saying "This is not election. This is selection." Well, this is what they mean.

2. Where does Moussavi stand politically?

Most of the people think that Moussavi will bring real democracy to Iran. Well, HE WONT! He once was president of Iran from 1982 to 1989, so he is part of the inner heart of the theocratical system. Under his leadership tens of thousands of students were executed in the late 80s.

You must not forget that every presidental candidate gets chosen by Chamenei, and he sure will choose the ones who will stick to the regime, no matter what happens.

Most of the people voted for him, because he may not be the best choice, but he still is the better one compared to Ahmadinejad.

3. Why do the people demonstrate?

Of course it is impossible to know the motivation of every single demonstrator. There are millions of people and surely as much opinions about what should come next.

But what they all have in common is there desire for change, for freedom and for democracy (more or less).

The election fraud is surely the last straw, since this regime is killing men, women, children, innocents, mentally retards, just everyone who does not fit into their views since 30 years. And the people know that (mainly because most of the executions took place in public). And now they are fighting back!

I got the feeling that most of the people think, that Iran was a well working democray until last friday, but IT WAS NOT!

4. But why are only people in Tehran demonstrating?

Please do not believe that. Its not true! Rallies take place all over the country, in almost every city and every town.

Please do not forget these people, because they are risking their lives just like the protesters in Tehran!

5. What is the role of the police and the army?

Most of the most violent pictures dont show policemen or soldiers attacking or shooting at the people. They show the Basiji, a volunteer based paramilitary force. And because they are volunteers, unlike the army, the regime can be sure that they will defend it, no matter what the price is.

Additionally to that there are rumors that Hezbollah forces were brought to Tehran to support the Basij. This was not confirmed, but many eye witnesses had said that the most brutal bullys dont even speak farsi.

There are also rumors that the army was told to shoot at the people, but refused to do so.

6. People get tired and stop demonstrating

This is also not true! It may appear so, because foreign media is not allowed to work there, but it is not true!! Contrariwise the rallies grow bigger and bigger from day to day, from hour to hour!

7. How can I help?

Even if you're not an Iranian, it is your duty as a human being to support these people. If you are a student, dont forget that they are also students, with exactly the same wishes and hopes for their future like you.

And if you have children, dont forget that they also have children, with exactly the same fears for their future like you.

They are humans like you. No terrorists. No islamist. Just freedom seeking people, like you!

Nobody wants your money, all that is needed is your voice. Write to the politicians, so that they dont accept Ahmadinejad as president, write to Amnesty International, to local radio stations, to the media, CNN or BBC, so that the dont stop reporting from Iran. If you are member of any kind of club, use this!

Ich habe in den letzten Tagen mitbekommen, dass sehr viele Nichtiraner gar nicht so genau wissen, was in unserem Land vorgeht, obwohl sie sich sehr wohl dafür interessieren.

Deswegen habe ich die meiner Meinung nach wichtigsten Punkte zusammengestellt. Ich versuche dies, soweit es mir möglich ist, ohne Wertung zu machen und mich nur auf die Fakten zu beschränken, damit sich jeder auf dieser Basis seine eigene Meinung bilden kann.

1. Das politische System des Iran

Obwohl die Bevölkerung den Präsidenten in direkten Wahlen bestimmt, handelt es sich keineswegs um eine Demokratie. Der Präsident hat zwar keine repräsentative Rolle, allerdings untersteht er zwei Instanzen.

Da wäre zum einen der geistliche Führer Ayatollah Khamenei. Er besitzt uneingeschränkte Machtbefugnisse über alle Instanzen, Institutionen und Gewalten und wurde auf Lebenszeit bestimmt.

Zum anderen wäre da der Wächterrat, der teilweise von Khamenei direkt bestimmt und zum anderen Teil vom Parlament gewählt wird. Diesem stehen allerdings nur Kandidaten zur Wahl, die von Khamenei bestimmt werden.

Genauso verhält es sich übrigens mit den Präsidentschaftskandidaten. Aus den vielen Hundert Bewerbern wählt Khamenei diejenigen aus, die sich dann dem Volk zur Wahl stellen.

Der Wächterrat wird nicht auf Lebenszeit bestimmt, sondern in einem Losverfahren periodisch erneuert.

2. Wo steht Moussawi politisch?

Anders als die deutschen Medien vermuten lassen, ist Moussawi keineswegs Demokrat. Er war schon von 1981-1989 Präsident der Islamischen Republik, also kurz nach der Revolution, und ist garantiert linien- und systemtreu.

Gar nicht erwähnt wird, dass er während der großen Hinrichtungswelle an iranischen Studenten Ende der Achtziger Jahre an der Macht war und diese genehmigt und befürwortet hat.

Trotzdem ist er das Symbol und die Leitfigur dieser Bewegung geworden, da er immer noch die bessere Alternative zum bisherigen Präsidenten Ahmadinejad bietet.

3. Wofür gehen die Menschen auf die Straßen?

Natürlich kann man nicht auf die Motivation jedes einzelnen Studenten schließen. Das wäre anmaßend und würde garantiert nicht der Wahrheit entsprechen.

Der Wahlbetrug ist natürlich ein großes Thema, allerdings kann man ruhig sagen, dass er der Tropfen war, der das Faß zum überlaufen brachte.

Anders als in den letzten Jahren nämlich, konnte man bei den diesjährigen Wahlen eine immense Wahlbeteiligung verzeichnen, und natürlich ist dann der Schock groß, wenn man sieht, dass man trotz Engagemant von der Regierung regelrecht vorgeführt wird.

Leider kommt meines Erachtens häufig das Bild auf, dass der Iran bis jetzt eine funktionierende Demokratie war, und die Regierung nun auf einmal Wahlfälschung begeht.

Das ist natürlich nicht der Fall. Seit 30 Jahren mordet diese Regierung Oppositionelle, Frauen, Kinder, Unschuldige, geistig Behinderte. Ohne Rücksicht. Die Menschen wissen dies natürlich. Dazumal nicht selten öffentliche Hinrichtungen statt finden. Und sie wissen auch, dass diese Umstände sich nicht durch eine erneute Auszählung der Stimmen oder durch Neuwahlen beheben lassen.

Wie weit sie gehen wollen, kann man nur spekulieren. Da gibt es auch unterschiedliche Lager unter den Demonstrierenden selber.

4. Beschränken sich die Proteste nur auf Tehran?

Nein. Die Menschen gehen im ganzen Land auf die Straßen. Sowohl in Millionenstädten, als auch in kleineren Orten. Sowohl im Süden, als auch im Norden. Der Iran erlebt gerade einen Wandel, der sich über das ganze Land hinwegzieht und wir sollten nicht so respektlos sein und all die Millionen Menschen vergessen, die in Isfahan, Tabriz, Shiraz und in allen anderen Städten jeden Tag ihr Leben riskieren oder es schon gelassen haben.

5. Wo stehen Polizei und Armee?

Diejenigen, die man in den Videos schlagen und auf die Menschen schießen sieht, gehören weder der Armee noch der Polizei an, sondern zumeist den Basiji, einem Ableger der Iranischen Revolutionsgarde.

Anders als die Armee besteht sie aus Freiwilligen, die ihrer Regierung explizit dienen wollen.

Das sind die Tatsachen. Es gibt allerdings immer mehr Gerüchte, dass auch sie nicht hemmungslos auf ihre Landsmänner einschlagen wollen, und deswegen Hisbollah Milizen aus dem Libanon ins Land geholt wurden, um diese Aufgabe zu erledigen.

Außerdem wird erzählt, dass die Armee sich geweigert hat, die Demonstrationen gewaltsam aufzulösen. Bestätigt wurde dies allerdings nicht.

6. Die Proteste nehmen ab

Bitte glaubt das nicht, es stimmt nicht! Es kommt einem nur so vor, weil westliche Medien nicht mehr berichten dürfen, und weil die Journalisten sich in Lebensgefahr begeben, wenn sie sich dem widersetzen. Das ist auch der Grund, warum uns immer weniger Bilder aus den Gebieten erreichen. Aber ss gibt Medien wie YouTube, Flickr, Twitter und Facebook, die die iranischen Demonstranten nutzen, um der Welt zu zeigen, was sie gerade durchmachen. Bitte lasst diese nicht ungenutzt und informiert euch.

7. Wie kann ich helfen?

Auch wenn ihr keine Iraner seid, solltet ihr die Demonstrationen unterstützen. Wenn ihr Studenten seid, dann vergesst nicht, dass auch sie Studenten sind, mit den gleichen Hoffnungen und Wünschen für ihre Zukunft wie Ihr.

Wenn ihr Kinder habt, dann vergesst nicht, dass auch sie Kinder haben, und sich eine sichere Zukunft für sie wünschen.

Hier geht es nicht um Geld, das hilft keinem. Das einzige was wir besitzen sind unsere Stimmen, die wir erheben wollen. Und das ist auch das einzige was ihr tun könnt. Schreibt den Politikern, sie sollen sich dafür einsetzen, dass die Wahlen nicht anerkannt werden. Den NGOs wie Amnesty International, dass sie Präsenz zeigen sollen. Ruft Radiosender an und bittet die Redakteure auf dieses Thema aufmerksam zu machen. Wenn ihr Mitglieder irgendwelcher Initiativen, Studentischen Vereinigungen, Vereine seid, nutzt dies und schreibt in deren Namen. Vereinigungen bekommen immer mehr Gehört als Privatpersonen.

Wenn ihr euch mit Computern auskennt, nutzt die Vorteile und beteiligt euch an Cyberwars.

Wenn ihr bei Twitter angemeldet seid, stellt eure Zeit und euren Ort bitte auf Tehran um, die iranischen Zensoren werden Probleme mit den Massen haben.

Und vor allem: Nehmt an den Demonstrationen, die überall in Deutschland statt finden teil. Zeigt der Welt, dass es hier nicht um Nationalitäten geht, sondern um die Freiheit, die das Grundrecht eines jeden Menschen ist.
